2017* . Transmission

2017 . Transmission

SATURDAY 18th AND SUNDAY 19th NOVEMBER 2017

TRANSMISSION was the theme of the 20th edition of Cité de la Réussite on 18 and 19 November 2017

Transmission is an inherent part of human nature, whether it be the life one gives, the knowledge one shares, the assets one bequeaths, or the rituals and beliefs one communicates, either orally or in writing.

Transmission is what creates the foundation for a group’s identity. The family, the tribe, the Nation… all are born through transmission. Whether it is a question of adhering to a model, to an idea, or to refute a moral, political or ethical legacy, transmission is what creates meaning, duration, and cohesion.

Transmission is what parents do when they “raise” their children, what teachers do when they “educate” students. It is the “vocation” of the sage that summons the notion of a philosophical, moral or religious disciple. Further, it is the mission of the “maestro”, and those who “pass on” the secrets of their trade, to be reproduced or reinvented. And of course, it is the mission of artists, painters, dancers and actors, whose magnificent works enable us to share in their emotions.

At a time when everything is connected, traditional media and the social networks become the ineluctable vectors of a continuous flow of information that mixes, in an escalating chaos, news, ideas, rumours, falsehoods, pirated material… In the midst of this avalanche of information, how are we to choose, how are we to forge an opinion?

Transmission is a matter of culture, but also one of heritage. We transmit assets in the same way as we pass on a company. The tipping point from one generation to the next, transmission is a responsibility that must be shouldered so that the capital which has been acquired may benefit posterity. This raises the question of the redistribution of wealth, and the share of an inheritance that should be taxed by the State and transmitted to the community.

Transmission is also about our health: our genetic heritage, the reproduction of the species, and the fight against all the diseases that are transmissible by humans or transmissible to humans.

Lastly, transmission is one of the great laws of nature, as it is well known, “Nothing is lost, nothing is created…” It is the law of the animal kingdom, the paradigm of the plant world. But it is up to modern man to pass on a planet that is fit to live in for future generations of humanity, and to one day transmit a message from Earthlings to other Living Beings in the universe.

La Cité de la Réussite is the perfect place to explore all the different forms of transmission. We rush to roundtables to listen to the words and thoughts of those who are deliberately seeking to transmit their experiences, reflections, solutions or revolts.

La Cité de la Réussite is a gathering where people participate in discussions and share their points of view, to renew each other’s perspectives and understanding.

For this 20th edition, it seemed like an obvious choice to make “transmission” the core theme.
