2012* . Sharing

2012 . Sharing

FRIDAY 19th SATURDAY 20th AND SUNDAY 21st OCTOBER 2012

Since 1989, hundreds of people involved in public debate have come to discuss and share ideas with students and an ever-larger audience. Year after year, everyone who has participated in the Cité de la Réussite has tried to make their own modest contribution to this citizens' debate. Sharing knowledge, taking an interest, being open to surprise, asking questions, learning and understanding others – these are the simple values we have been endeavouring to promote for two decades now. This year, the Cité de la Réussite has decided to ask its participants to "share".

Sharing is central to the creation and construction of Humanity and it is what allows us to progress.

In the globalised but also individualist context that is breaking down borders and raising new questions about the stakes of governance, is it not essential to reinvent a model of society based on sharing and the search for new types of solidarity? Sharing is what gives birth to the great democratic ideals.

The social contract must be based on shared principles and values and the desire to live together and enjoy a common destiny. Democracy, generally, draws its strength and legitimacy from the balance and sharing of power and powers.

Sharing is, of course, key to the sustainable development to which we aspire. Sustainable development is everybody's business. We share this responsibility to meet the ecological and social challenges facing us, challenges that are unique in the history of Humanity.

In order to share, we must create, produce and develop. In the market economy, business is in search of new models. The future of business and the economy will be built, fundamentally, on the need to share a "larger" destiny, "a vision" – and to give meaning to the engagement of each person in their work and in the community of workers.

Sharing forces us to question who we are and the relationship between the self and others. Does sharing mean giving oneself to others, or is it a balanced exchange of what creates intimacy and feelings?

From philosophy to being, from economics to sustainable development, the foundation and equilibrium of our societies and our actions, sharing is a part of everything and highlights the diversity of actors in our society. In October 2012, the Cite de la Réussite will invite captains of industry, public policy makers, artists, thinkers, journalists and citizens to share two days of exchange of views and debates to lay the foundations for progress and a brighter common destiny.
